I agree lotsoblots. The appliance white is a good match with the ultimate chess board.

That is an amazing shipping cost. There is no way I can match that price.
Go with it!

Thanks for the confirmation. Will do!

What is the best wooden board to get to go with the sheesham/boxwood version of the ultimate chess pieces?
Many would say that the best solid wood board currently being made in USA is the JLP board from ChessHouse....I would tend to agree...
For a more affordable and very good custom made solid wood board, I would recommend ColoradoWoodWorker (Brad Borkowski) on ETSY....

Brad made this board for me, which I like very much...squares are 2.25 inch. Squares are Brazilian cherry & maple. Apron is walnut. Pieces are GM Blitz set from ChessBazaar with 3.75 inch King. I particularly appreciate the contrast between the cherry squares and the pieces...
OMG

I agree lotsoblots. The appliance white is a good match with the ultimate chess board.
I agree, too, If I were to upgrade my daily set, this would be the combination I would choose. Aesthetically pleasing to the eye and practical.

The best thing about the v3 appliance white is that it is just off white enough to stand out on the white squares of the tourney boards like this green and white mousepad. Most plastic sets are either pure white or tan. No in-between.

Hey,
The product is only listed on Amazon.com not Amazon.com.au. I suspect the vendor (Family Board Games) would need to specifically list on Amazon AU for it to appear locally for us.
This is the product link i'm using. Good luck!

Just to throw a wrench into the color discussion, I have to say that, having been using the V3 "appliance white" ultimates on the wood-grained ultimate tournament board (vinylpad) for the past week or so everyday, I have fallen in love with a color that I found at most tolerable before. I've shared this (poorly centered and amateurishly created) photo before so apologies, but I think the combo is great and it's surprisingly given me a totally different take on the V3 color.
Does that mean I wouldn't buy a V3 no-rattlers butter set? No way, that color just hits all the right notes for me and I'd be lined up to buy a set or two immediately! But what we have now is great, too, and I absolutely prefer it to V1 at this point.
PS: Might be sort of obvious, but the appliance white V3 color actually looks better (to my eyes) than the V2 butters on the Red White and Blue US Chess Championship vinylpad board.
Where did you get the wood-grained ultimate tournament board?

It was from American Chess Equipment / Shelby, but I believe they sold out pretty quickly and are not to be made again.

Where did you get the wood-grained ultimate tournament board?
American Chess Equipment sold them but they are out and no more to be made. They do still have the mousepad version with the same print in stock.

And they're VERY similar, except for the obvious difference in material. I have accidentally torture tested a few of my mousepads just by living in central Texas and having a car (we're at 49 days at or above 100F so far this year, FFS), but I'm not seeing any warping or delamination issues with any of them. One would think that the vinyl would be more stain-resistant than the mousepads, but mine has a couple of blemishes of my own making that won't come off (one is acrylic paint on the f6 square, and the other is sambal oelek and chicken grease on the h8 corner, so not your average stains), where everything spilled on any of my mousepads (coffee, oatmeal, baby vomit) has come off in the washing machine. I haven't tried throwing the Ultimate in the machine yet, but with my household, it's only a matter of time. So, yeah, I have zero complaints about my ACE mousepads. If you like the color scheme, get yourself one before they disappear. For comparison:
Ultimate with Butters
Ultimate with RCM 70's Dubs
Mousepad with Butters
Mousepad with Dubs

Wow, the vinyl and mousepad ARE very similar. I actually initially thought you made a mistake with the second photo and that it was the mousepad! Interesting that you can just throw it in the washing machine, too, I hadn't even considered that possibility.

FWIW, ours is a front-loader, and I've only washed them on delicate, cold, and then hung up to dry. Works great! Not sure how it would go in a top-loader, though.

For those of you that are looking for the Yellow Ultimates...I will have another 36 in stock in about a week.
One of my customers is closing up his shop and he was sitting on a cache of them. Once these are gone...no more in the yellow! Call me with any of you looking to make bulk purchases!

After seeing the positive reviews and the great interaction of Shelby here in the forums i'm sold on picking up a set of Ultimates.
I couldn't find any online Australian vendors with the set. So far it seems amazon.com shipping to Australia seems to be the only real option. Shipping works out to be half the cost of the set itself
Anyone know of the best way to get some Ultimate v3's in Australia?
Stahburst,
What is Amazon going to charge you? I should be able to ship it from my shop competitively.

Hi Shelby,
Amazon.com are charging USD 25.07 for AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping (the cheapest shipping available and takes about 2 weeks) to Sydney Aus.
Happy to go with whever is most practical, whether it is Amazon or yourself, i understand the set is decently heavy so i cant imagine shipping to be super cheap anyway.
Cheers
