With the finials on the K, Q, and B, rather than Soviet they look kinda Dubrovnik to me -- but I'm in no way an expert. And the knights seem like they are kinda German (face), kinda Dub (mane). Very cool style! And I really like those six-parapet rooks. Your kids did very well!
Vintage chess set from China

I think it’s a wonderful find. The knights are bananas (and that’s a compliment … a crazy, fun design …) a set of wonder and joy / basic and functional. 👍

Stems and bases a Russian touch, 'Spanish' triple rings, also king's cross and 'mitre' cut, this bishop is between a Dubrovnik and a Spanish 'Marigo' bishop! The knights could be inspired by Brazilian knights? Cogwheel queens and potato print rooks. Nice queen in front of her new skyline.. good stuff, cool thank you!
While browsing online I found a vintage shop in Heilongjiang (near the Chinese Russian border) that had a vintage tournament size chess set. If this is Chinese made for the domestic market this is the first larger vintage set I’ve seen for sale. It’s a bit damaged so the price was good and my kids generously got it for me for chrsitmas.
It seems quite well made with 53mm squares and an 11cm king lightly weighted and well felted. The set seems reminiscent of Soviet style sets but the knight looks like some of the ones I’ve seen in smaller domestic sets. The sticker is for 黑龙江省孙吴县木器厂 which makes Chinese chess(象棋)goods but I’ve not seen other photos of an international chess set like this from them. I’m not sure if they made the board, the whole set or if someone just put a sticker on a set they had.
In any case I just wanted to share this set since and see if anyone had seen one similar before.
