Nice set. Looks like a Jaques style clone from the bases. Maybe made by the British Chess Company? Alan Dewey should be able to track it down for you Mike. I would be very surpised if its not English made.
What is favorite size chess set:3.75", 4" or 4.4" Kings?

Wonderful set Mike ! I am not good at taking pictures of mine and then getting them on the net , sorry . I dont have any sets with a larger than 4" king though . I normally use 3 different sets , one for tournaments , and 2 for going over games/analysing and any opening work I may do .... one upstairs and one down stairs . One upstairs is the Zagreb set with 4" king and one downstairs is an old beat up wooden set that is 3.5" king and this set used to be my tournament set . The two sets I use for analysis are also used for casual games as well . If any blitz gets played I get out one of my sturdy plastic sets .

Another great set Mike . Prefer the 3.75 or 4's cause when I put my chin on the chess table I can't see over the top with anything higher.

I like to play w/ a club-size set occasionally, but mostly I prefer playing w/ a 3.75" set...
I think Bobby would agree with ya .
I also have experienced problems with taking the pictures so they look good on the internet. I'll be working on it.
In the meantime, I find that I like the sets that are smaller, 3.5" - 3.75" King size.
I bought a 3.5" York Series from HoS that they no longer carry, but I noticed Official Staunton or Carl has a set that looks identical to they call Morphy. Mine is Ebonised which Carl carries but they also have the set in Sheesham. This set fits perfectly on a 2" square board as the King base diameter is 1.5".
This set and folding wood board from The Rochester Chess Center has a small footprint and the pieces and playing area are nicely sized and proportioned.
My Dubrovnik II set and my HoS Players Series set have King sizes of 3.6" and 3.75" respectively. Both sets are very easy to handle and play with. Both sets have the smaller sized pieces making it easy.

Thanks Reb, I like that you have such flexibily using your different size sets. I like using one of 4" sets for tournamnet play, a 3.75" or 4" set for blitz chess, my 4.4" sets for home play and my 3.5" or 3.75" sets for anaylsis.

Thanks D2to D8, hey, work on getting a double chin, that may help you get over the hump!

I like the club size too Frank, regarding the 3.75" sets, there are not as many nice sets offered compared to those avaiable in the 4" and 4.4" size.

Thanks for your thoughts Ron, what size set do you use for tournamnet play?
Mike, I use a number of different sets for tournament play. I put them in a rotation.
I use the 4" King sized HoS Marshall Series Rosewood set with a 2.5" square board when there is room.
The 3.75" King sized sets I use on 2.25" square boards include; Best Chesssmen Ever with Stainless bases, HoS Players Series Rosewood, the HoS Fischer-Spassky Commemorative Golden Rosewood, and I just ordered a Noj set with 99mm King size, the GM Pavasovic set which should arrive later this year.
My 3.6" set(s) I use for tournament play with either a 2.25" roll up board (either leather or vinyl), or a 2" - 2.125" wood board are the Noj Dubrovnik II in Walnut and a Dubrovnik II in Red which should arrive shortly.
And finally when I want a small footprint for tournament play I use a 3.5" King HoS York Series Ebonized set which is now available from Carl as their Morphy set. I use this set on a 2" square wood board, either folding or Drueke.

My opinion GNM to size in relationship to how the sets were made, "the originals".
I have too many 4.4" and do not want to buy anymore for a long time. I would however like sets that are 3.75".
Just to mention the 2014 Sinquefield Cup set was 3.75". The proper dimmensions are on HOS, just a beauty of a set in my opinion. I was going to buy a CB Sinquefield set as it seemed to be about 90% of the set and in my price range but low and behold they made it 4.33" WOW WTF the set is suppose to be 3.75". I shot an email off asking why so huge for a set that was never meant to be that big. I Was told the labor is almost identical for a larger set and only the wood is a bit more so we made it bigger. Is bigger better? Not in this case as I much rather have a 3.75" genuine height set than something that never existed. Maybe it's a silly point but I would have bought it in a NY minute if it was 3.75" Here is the CB set folowed by the HOS set to be fair. I have no relationship with either one. So the conclusion some believe make it the biggest you can and you will sell more. Maybe they are right, maybe that is the sweet spot in their sales and customers. But I like the closest to original as I can possibly get within of course my budget as I so not have deep pockets, in fact they need some sewing as I have holes in them.

Hi Mac, it's a very good looking set. Easily worth the money whether you buy it in bud rose or ebony. SOmething like 216.99 and 221.99 (estimated). Can't go wrong. When you consider that is shipped it is a bargain. I see you got the ebony. Were any of the pieces cracked?

Nope. Still as perfect as the day I got it. I've had cracking problems with the CB 1849, though. They have had to replace both white queens, a white bishop and a white rook. They did it without a sqeak, though, and the set has been stable for a few months now.
Ooooop's I better check my 1849 set from CB. Was fine when I first checked it over.
