There is no standard. And I´ve never seen a 8 cm high king with a 4 cm wide base. If we´re talking about traditional Staunton type pieces a 4 inch/10 cm king has a base that is almost 4 cm wide, say 37 mm. The different pieces differ in height with the king being the tallest and the pawn the shortest. If all pieces were of equal hight it would be hard to tell them apart.
what are the measurements of the chess pieces?

i was refering to the queen when i said 8 cm high and 4 cm base,my bad if that was confusing.
i just think it's weird how the pieces can be so different from one official tournament to the other and still be acceptable a pawn can have a 1 cm difference,a king can have almost 2 cm of difference from one set to another and no other measurements being specified by fide.

Sets with 3.75 inch King height are the "standard" size for "official" competition...
The FIDE Manual, Sections 2 & 3, also specifies board and pieces sizes (i.e., for FIDE events)...

i was searching for it and i couldnt find anything other than the diameter of the base and the height,is there nothing else like a standard that it should follow other than those two? as long as i have 8cm of height and 4cm of base diameter then anything else is good to go? is there no standardized relation between the diameter of the base and the diameter of the upper part? isn't the fact that a piece can differ in a full centimeter in height from the shortest and highest acceptable something that affects play? like, a difference like that can be noticeable when something is already that small.is it not felt during time scramble where pieces are being moved so fast?
