The interwebz...an amazing thing....
Ok but what about us consumers, customers do we get anything out of it?
Like an IPhone if we know IMEI we can check few things about it , including if it's an original product or not.

Yeah. Document your serial # and if someone tries to take your clock or it gets moved to a different table/board at a tourney, you can find it more easily
