where might I find a designer/luxury portable chess set

Hey! I'm trying to find a high end chess set I could bring around to a coffee house and travel with. TheChessPiece.com used to have a "grape-like" set that might have fit the bill. I've been searching around ChessBazar and the like, but haven't found anything like what I'm looking for. Pieces would obviously be smaller than most "luxury" sets.

World Chess' Studio Set is on my must-have list. https://shop.worldchess.com/products/chess-set-version-2. Check out this review: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/review-world-chess-studio-set

Folding board with smaller square size and correspondingly smaller pieces. VERY well designed set. The board is primarily what I want.

It's not exactly a travel set but doable because of the folding board, smaller size and piece bag it's very doable.

You might think otherwise if you've read some of the reviews of this set here in the forum.

Such as which? Coincidentally I was recently adding this set to my mental wishlist on the basis of the portability & characteristics of the board in particular. The review mentioned above sounded good to me.

Since you are in the US, look for a library size or analysis size chess pieces (max 3” king). There are high end options in both House of Staunton or Chess House. You can grab a foldable wooden board or an analysis vinyl board.

To be honest, a nice weighted plastic set like Marshall library would do the job better, since the pieces will drop on the floor for sure. Also coffee, soda, beer, wine or whisky spills and food stains will definitely happen too.

I have a plastic heavily weighted Marshall tournament size carried in a fabric bag and a 2,25” square vinyl board that is very practical for outdoor, coffee house or traveling. They are good looking, very nice to play with and almost indestructible.

Good luck!

I still think this is a viable option from a world renowned designer (Daniel Weil). A lot of attention to detail went into it. The review I referenced didn't have any quality issues and even showed using it as a travel board. I'm most excited about the board (from a leading Spanish board producer, 45mm square size, minimal border and fabric hinge that others are saying hold up)

Quality issues of the pieces are likely related to the Indian supplier/carver and easily solved with support (albeit annoying). People have said they are response in replacing parts and even have the ability to buy replacement pieces if any go missing.

My travel set is plastic and vinyl board. But I don't consider it designer or luxury. To me that typically means wood (though I've heard of quality plastic pieces.. many people may not consider this luxury).

Get everything in one set (board, pieces and carry case). Meticulously designed to complement each other.
