There is also Official staunton in UK - https://www.officialstaunton.com/collections/chess-boards

and a German company called Ulbrich. However ulbrich boards seem to be veneer rather than solid wood. https://www.ulbrich-spieledesign.de

Best chessboards are made in Italy. You need to buy direct from Italy if you want genuine ones and they cost also much less.

The best chessboard I ever played on is the Summervilles. This is the ultimate!

This is funny.

Yes, the boards made in Italy are nice.  I own some myself.  But Carl at Official Staunton sells some of these boards which are made in Italy.  In fact Carl is Italian and living in London.  And yes I bought Italian made boards from both Carl at Official Staunton as well as from Italy so I do know and have real experience in this.

It is not true that they are necessarily the best, especially with this guy's second comment.

The Summerville boards are not made in Europe.  They are out of New England which I believe is still in the Untied States.  And with that, that design of board is nice but not the best.  I also have owned a number of these boards and have some friends that own some as well.

So, I would look to Official Staunton for some nice boards at decent prices.  And they are in Europe.

The problem of course, with solid blocks glued together, is that what happens when the humidity changes is a bit of a lottery.  If the different timbers do not move in the same directions by the same amounts with humidity changes they will eventually crack.

A chessboard , Like a good chess set you get what you paid for ! Do you like dark squares being black  ?

What is easy for the eye ?

When I was looking for one some years back took my Jaques king to the chess shop & size up what would fit nicely ,

Was lucky to find a sightly damage board with two thirds of the price knocked off .

What looks nice on a screen may not suit your eye's .

But the dark black Sq do look nice as do the dark brown red Sq , just not for me .

How did you order? Their site does not seem to have an option for buying.

There are a number of good places to buy chessboards in Europe.  I suggest finding the board you want and then finding the closest seller to buy it from.
