I'm assuming the playing field squares are made of thin veneer similar to other Rechapados Ferrer chess boards. But how is that intricate border made? Is it painted/stenciled on? Applied in some way?
For the pieces, I found a site which sells what seems to be almost the exact ones.

@sound67 With the board being veneer, I wouldn't bet on the decorative border being inlaid wood created from hundreds of tiny 5mm slivers of handcrafted marquetry. Although, it would be great and well worth (IMO) the roughly 200Euro price if it was. I know there is one person here that has one on order. Can't wait to see real world photos. Please post!
They can manufacture a veneer strip by gluing together thick pieces in the pattern, then sawing it thin. There's a fair amount of waste in the process, obviously. They might even be able to buy that pattern commercially from a veneer supplier.

Definitely the chessboard that appears in the series is black, the manufacturer Rechapados Ferrer has confirmed it. The light makes it look like it's brown, but if you look at it from different perspectives you will see that it's clearly black:
I've already bought it in www.chessis.art website and I'm very happy. I'm so surprised with the quality of these chessboard, it's even beautiful when you have it in your hands than in photos. I share with you some pictures:

Can anyone shed some light on what this set is from the Moscow park scene at the very end of the show. The Knight and Bishop pieces are quite unique and I haven't seen them before.

Unfortunately the director and producer chose a very bad-looking chess set for the Queen’s Gambit which may prove they did not know much about chess sets.
