Who has ever seen green chess pieces?

The thought crossed my mind while looking at the chess.com logo. I did a google search and found that green is a common color and green sets are available in multiple materials, wood (stained), natural marble, and others.

Below I will post some attractive pictures.

Hard to get a sense of the size here, possibly trick photog. Anyway, super cool set, really dig the pawns and the bishop's caps.

And the color, obviously!

I like green boards more. It is not a good idea to paint wooden chess set as this make them look like toys rather than a dignified game. I had a red color chess set which gradually changed color and then the paint peeled off. Natural wood is much better.

I like green boards as well, standard in tournaments.

I think red is nicer. Of course, one can paint any chess set their favourite colour.

Of course!

NattyBumppo

Transco made a plastic mandarin set that was green and white.

Thank you. One closer shot.

These are jade and emerald colored, not green.

Emerald is a shade of green. Stop trolling and otherwise enjoyable thread, please.

Hi, MynameisMurl...

I just ordered this set of pieces from Chessbazaar as I, too, own one of these Rechapados Ferrer boards shown in  your first photo of this forum.

The pieces haven't arrived yet but I know I'm going to really enjoy having them! I ordered them with the optional glossy lacquer finish so, if they are even more reflective than those shown in this Chessbazaar photo, I'll send another picture as well.

Cheers,

Apparently in India, sets were traditionally green vs red. It's a colour combination you don't see for sale all that often, although I spy one in post #5 here.

Here is a 19th century "Burmese" pattern chess set from my collection.

I once bought a lovely green and white staunton set from Chess Baron

Pawnerai

Here's one you don't see very often. A green vintage Henri Chavet set. Supposedly purchased from Harrods in the 1940s.
