Here is a pic of knights, from a past thread. I just posted it because I thought it was cool.

i like all of those.... except maybe bottom row third from the left, not sure about that one.

I like the knight on the top row third from the left.  anyone know what set that is from?  Dubrovnik, yes, but it does not look familiar.

Ken, the one third from the left on the top is not a Dubrovnik, but a Zagreb or possibly a Leningrad. The one third from the left on the bottom is a Dubrovnik from Chess Bazaar. The one third from the right on the bottom is a Chess Bazaar rendition of the Marcel Duchamp's Buenos Aires set.

I don't know my left form right.  Embarassed

I meant third from the right in both cases.

Top row, third from right.  Dubrovnik?  Yes?  Do you recall from where?

If you like the Zagreb knight from HOS, I'm sure you saw his cousin, the Leningrad knight.

Another variant on the Zagreb knight is this "Yugo (Zagreb)" hybrid set from House of Chess in blood rosewood, which is really a Dubrovnik style set with oversized Zagreb knights.

Lou, I did not think the Dubrovnik sets had that type of finial for the Kings. I am still learning the different style sets though so not very well versed on what the different sets look like.

Rsava,

You're right, they don't. In a Dubrovnik set, the king would have a ball finial, and only the bishops would sport different colored finials. That's why I call it a hybrid set, combining design elements of both the Dubrovnik and Zargreb styles.

Personally, I like the amalgam. Though I suspect purists would prefer the original designs.

If you like the Zargreb stytle knights, check out the comparison between the "Yugo (Zagreb)" knight and a standard Zargreb knight, which looks like a Shetland pony standing next to a Clydesdale!
