You got one, or found it off the internet?=
found it on the internet.
I've seen those. Tell us about it. Size, age, condition, manufacturer. I'm impressed and curious.
Wish I had that information... I was looking for chess board ideas and captured this image. Lost the link and cannot find it again.
It was for sale, was not interested in buying at the time.
I've seen them offered with French sets on Ebay.
It is possible that is where i saw it. thanks!
Here's one in John Crumiller's collection.

Has anyone every seen one of these before?
I own two of these. They are practical for analysis, but I have never seen them larger than 1.5" or 1.75" squares

What kind of cloth is that on the bottom? Felt, canvas?

It's a canvas-like material. I can take some pics when I get back from work.
Here's a shot of mine. The squares are approximately 1-1/8". Overall 9" square. I show it here with the only set I have that is close to fitting -- a 2-1/2" bone Ugly Uhlig set from the early 1900's.
The back is green canvas... couldn't get a real clear shot. Shown in the background is a standard 2-1/4" Drueke tournament board for size comparison.
Thanks!
That looks like a well made board, much better tolerance between each board compared to some of the others I have seen so far.
The set is interesting... i like the super wide base on the smaller pieces, great idea for better stability. The exaggerated tops allow for faster recognition, i think, with the smaller pieces.
Very nice!
The board underneath looks like a behemoth in comparison.
I like the 8 pieces boards... vs the 16 or 24 pieces roll up (campaign)boards.
I understand the more pieces the tighter the roll, for transportation. To build one, I prefer the 8 pieces.
Would you say they roll up well enough to fit in a chess bag?
A bag something like this:
