Should I have a coach?

I've been interested in chess for years but never got into it until recently. I have a very basic understanding of the game and cant get out of the 200 range in blitz. I have games that I feel like I'm better than where I'm at just do have a one sided game where I lose. I feel like I'm not growing at all. I dont know anyone who is into chess so it makes it harder for me personally to keep interest if I keep losing, so should I get a coach? and if so what's a good way to find if a coach is right for me?

If all you're going to play is blitz and bullet?  A coach would be a waste of time, and money.

well I dont know where to start playing I thought blitz would be a good starting place. Is 10 minute blitz not a good starting place for beginners? I got a random invite for bullet and just said why not. I had fun. I'm looking to grow and sitting there doing puzzles and finding out what the moves are without knowing why this move is bad or why it's good doesn't help me grow. I spend a couple hours everyday doing puzzles or watching games, so I'm doing other things besides playing games. maybe I just need a club or something to get to a novice level than a beginner

Keep it simple.  Ask yourself:  "Am i giving myself enough time to think.  Or am i just playing fast?"

Is there any kind plan game plan behind your moves?  Speed chess is fun, but its a horrible way to play if youre trying to improve.  It instills a lot of bad habits.

Coaches are a waste of money. The internet has all the resources you will need to get better.

True to a certain extent.  I think anyone with an ounce of desire can easily reach USCF B class by themselves.  Now if youre trying for anything past that?  Then i think a coach is needed,

I always thought for blitz the timer was more for being considerate to your opponent to not take too much time, not as a speed game. I've had few games where I'll think too much and some I think too little. so I should play daily for a little to allow me to think of moves? I appreciate the help you guys are giving me btw

@SlugmaChops, at 200 blitz I would not recommend a coach. Coaches would be for players who are like 1000-1800 looking to improve their game to the next level.

You do not need that. Since you are 200 blitz, all I would recommend is to keep playing blitz. Eventually you'll break 200 and go onto 300, 400, 500 etc. Once you reach 1000 and want to improve your game, then that's where a coach is in handy.

You've only played a few games. The Rating will improve after some more games, and after you a few more games, you might have gained more rating! =)

Anyway, don't get discouraged. At your level, there's a lot of room for improvement!

Hope this helps!

If money isn't a problem, hire a coach because you are Interested to improve in chess. Many parents waste money hiring a piano coach despite almost no interest from their child.

If your rating is as you say I’m pretty sure I can help you - no charge. I’ve tutored kids in math & such before, just a little chess, but would like to have more chess teaching experience under my belt. If it doesn’t help no big deal. If it does help maybe sometime once you’re up & running a recommendation would be nice.
I’m in my 60s and have a flexible schedule.
