Chess is played by few people in Somalia, but we have a traditional forms of board games among them the renowned Somali board game_"shax"(in Somali writing) or "shah"(in latin writing) played by the elder players who somehow switched to playing and favoring chess over the traditional one. Chess came into popularity in Somalia around the colonial era and more later in the Soviet era when these authorities introduced it into the Somali aristocrat society and scholars. Today the game is played by many who entertain in streat tournaments which is more convinient with our Somali outdoor recreational activities. Chess activities in Somalia are some how unknown, because of decline in its popularity since the collapse of the central Somali government, and the civil war. The entire community who brought up that rich culture dispersed and fled to the corners of world, but today there are many in Somalia who are strifing to restore the Somali title at world stake and accomplishing self aclaimed activities and voluntarily assigning players who will first have to come up in national and local tournaments before proceeding to international level.,
