how do the ratings in Mentor and Tactics compare to online ratings? should they be close to the same numbers? For instance. if you are a 1400 online player, should you get the same score in Mentor?

I do not think so. I am ~1550 in chess mentor but just ~750 in real life. So it should be something different.

Me also.I have reached a Chess Mentor rating of over 1900 but am about a 1400 in live chess. It seems to me that the more work you put into Chess Mentor the higher your rating will be!

The tactics trainer and 'online chess' seem to be pretty close most of the time, but there are many exceptions too.

The thing about chess mentor is you can get a bunch of points for just doing the beginning how the pieces move lessons and have an artificially high score while never tackling the more challenging advanced expert level lessons.

Chess Mentor is very easy. I only use it like 5 hours last year. Tactics Trainer is a lil more complicated. I have more or less the same rating in tactics and in online/correspondence -1700.

Bout a 1600 player online, but 2100 in chess mentor.  I'd say it really depends on the lessons you do and how familiar you are with them to how high you'll get your chess mentor rating.

I got to 2100 in a day or so doing deflection tactic lessons, which is something that I was already good at, but it's still pretty instructive... =p

Chess Mentor lets you retake the quiz and up your score if you do better so its not a true score like the Tactics program, in which a retake does not benefit your score.  But I always retake the Mentor Tutor problems to understand the workout better, but I receive I know that my Mentor score is not accurate because my retakes up my score.
