There is a difference between a draw and stalemate.
ALL stalemates are draws, but not ALL draws are stalemates.
Stalemate is when you are NOT in check but there is NO legal move that can be made.
Besides statemate, draws can occur because:
- Neither side has sufficient material to force a checkmate
- K+B (or N) vs K
- K+N+N vs K
- Two Kings and NO other pieces/pawns on either side.
- The position has repeated 3 times
- No capturing move or pawn move has been made after 50 consecutive moves
- Both players AGREE to a draw
Frustrated because My ChessTitans game has ended in draw when there is a piece other than King able to move, though it could be captured if I chose to do so (but have no reason - my next move would have resulted in checkmate). My understanding is the draw is declared only if there are no options for the last piece (King) remaining. Otherwise, draw would be declared everytime I set up the board perfectly, whether or not the game is near end. Am I correct that this is an error in programming of the game, or is this a rule I'm unaware of?
