Where to start

Where is a good place to start in chess mentor? I want to learn how to play a game all the way through. I know how all the pieces move, what they are worth and I know to try to control the center. I get so frustrated sometimes, especially in live games that I can't think of what to do.

Probably it's best to start with some lessons about calculation, because pretty much everything else will require decent calculation to be understood. Then maybe some middlegame matters - tactics, basic planning, attacking and defending. Afterwards some endgame, positional and general opening principles lessons. Try to look for varoius topics, don't concentrate on a single theme.

Endgames! It's crazy, but you will get better in middlegame and opening if you study the endgame. When you know the Lucena and Philidor (and everything easier), and can draw and win it every time, you should start om middlegame tactics and maybe opening traps. ChessTempo is excellent for tactics.

Then middlegame plans, looking over ALOT of simple GM games. Then you will get a feeling for where the pieces wants to be in these kinds of positions. To use that, you will have to play the MAIN LINES. So you will have to study opening a little bit.

Mentor has me studying tactics. That's all fine if I could only get that far in a game. Whenever I play live games with time limits I get all nervous and anxious and lose my queen and or rook before I have a chance to try tactics or pawn end games. There should be training that helps you get through the opening.
