Who the hell has never read or watched Lord Of The Rings in this day and age??
Hilarious Carlsen/Nakamura insult.

Someone who takes their chess really serious?

However, can't help but I upvoted this.

no someone who has a social life/s, actually that is a good question, apparently Magnus Carlsen hasn't.
regardless, it is saying (maybe this is too deep) that Carlsen will have a long riegn, but people will fight it, and eventually the least likely person will prevail in defeating him.

* Raises hand * No interest. I just don't get into much fantasy.
What are AMA and reddit?
AMA stands for "Ask Me Anything" and is a common type of article on Reddit.
As for what Reddit is, it's hard to explain, but here's a pretty good effort: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlI022aUWQQ .

they were still good movies, but I understand not everyone is interested in watching/reading sci fi/fantasy (I also read the books which were IMO better than the movies)
Until the movie came out, Tolkien's books set in Middle Earth were rather obscure and only known by fantasy/sci fi fans. I first read the books in the 1970's -- almost 40 years ago. I recall that in the 1980s, when I made references to Frodo or Bilbo to a non-SF group, I got a bunch of blank stares. I actually did not enjoy the movies as much as I did the books, although I think that Peter Jackson did the best that he could, given how epic the novels were.
Even today, I probably know more Tolkien trivia than the average SF/fantasy fan. Indeed, I am probably the only person that I know of who has read the Silmarillion from cover to cover. I will admit that this prequel was a bit of a snore, but it does provide the entire history of Middle Earth from its creation by Eru the One.

pt22064; I too read Tolkien in the 70's, and agree with you about the movies. I'm aware of the Silmarillion, but have not read it. Maye I'm reading too much into this but I was expecting this; Nakamura calls Magnus--Sauron. Magnus replies, "I'm more like the Nazguils". On the fantasy note, there's a set of books, 13 I think, called "The Wheel Of Time", by Robert Jordan, that I'm gonna have to read, after I get my chess rating up.

@ol_my; Sauron, is the great evil one, of Middle Earth. The equivalent of Darth Vater in Star Wars, or Dick Cheney in the government.

that last one might be a bit of overstatement, lets just change it to radicals.

Fair enough, I have watched them, and I have to say, it is not something I am overly fond of.
However, i do like the villians more!
