I’ve never come across this position before, so I’m just looking for feedback from some of you more experienced players on your favorite next move for black in this situation, and why.

Neither I nor my opponent really knows what we’re doing well enough for me to give much info regarding our play style. I tend to prefer being more on the aggressive side of things when it comes to games in general, but my favorite strategy is the one that will get me a win. Laughing

Thanks!

That could easily end up I'm a Colle System set up for white. As well as many other potential systems.

Sometimes it even ends up as a queen's gambit where they want to avoid the nimzo/benko/budapest.

I like to play the Benoni and Benko Gambit after 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 with 2 ... c5 but I delay c5 if my opponent plays 2. Nf3 because I don't like the position after 3. c3. White is theatening to take on c5 with 4. dc5 and hold the pawn with 5. b4 so Black has to trade on d4 with 3 ... cd 4. cd to reach a Slav or play 3. ... e6 to reach a Tarrasch Defence to the Queens Gambit.

So my usual reply to 2. Nf3 is 2 ... g6, a useful move in both the Benoni and Benko Gambit. If White plays 3. c4 then I can play 3. ... c5 and reach the lines I want to play.

I encounter this position often, as I usually aim for the torre attack as white. I find that the most effective responses from black are g6 or e6, but this is of coure from the point of view of someone who is going to play Bg5 regardless.
