A solid Sicilian?

I have been dabbling with the Sicilian defense lately, and I have a question. What is one of the more solid lines? I like the dragon because I like to fianchetto the bishop, but I don't like how overly aggressive it is. Is there a line that is a bit slower, more solid?

My favorite opening in chess at this point is the Dutch Stonewall. Influence the center from the flank, build a solid wall, and attack from the edges. Is there a Sicilian that operates according to a similar plan?

Thanks!

The Taimanov and the Kan are both quite solid and flexible.

The Accelerated is so much more solid that in the 5.c4 lines, it's really hard for black to play for a win.

But you can't have everything, it's solid, full of traps, and white players aren't booked up on it. It's been my main defence to 1.e4 for about ten years.

The Najdorf is the most theoretical, but also one of the easier ones to pick up themes for.  The Dragons required a lot of understanding of when an exchange sacrifice is solid in order to stop Yugoslav style attacks.  The Kan is a nice, simple line.

I recommend the Najdorf (1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6) but there are a lot of possible White replies: 6. Bg5, Be2 or f3 (they transpose), Bc4, Be3, or f4.  The short of it is that against Be2 or f3, you play ... e5, and everything else gets ... e6.

Be2 and f3 don't transpose, Be3 and f3 usually transpose.

How about the Scheveningen?

The Keres Attack makes the Scheveningen risky -- most GMs who enjoy playing the Scheveningen structures transpose into them via the Najdorf, the Kan or the Taimanov variations.

I thought what made the scheveningen risky  was the perenyi piece sac.

I recommend Hyper Accelerated Dragon. See my blog posts for details... or go to this forum thread: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-openings/hyper-accelerated-dragon-move-order
