Advocating the use of Scholar's Mate

I used to play this variation of the Minor Line; Queens Pawn Attack, Mason Line.

As white I played this religiously for about 2 years, hour or two a day.  My rating never got much past 1350.  Obviously you are playing for the rook and honestly at the 1200-1400 range I won 1/5 of my games this way.  2/5's I would at least exchange early for the black bishop and give black poor pawn position.  Knowing it was an otherwise failed open I played it anyway, it was like comfort food.  However, it was solid enough that in the meantime I was able to learn in the way of tactics from it, either by gaining the advantage and playing to mate, or by disadvantage and playing equalize.  Point is when I stopped, I now play 3.Nf3 and have excelent success with it, my rating jumped about 200+ points.  Point2 is that until I was comfortable enough with my tactics it was important to start in a way I enjoyed.  I still am toying with this opening but it goes a bit like this:
Who knows maybe one day 3.Nc3 will be QueeAns Pawn Attack, Rexrode Variation! LOL

BTW, and OT I am a huge fan of Alekhine's even though OTB at my club I normally get plastered using it.  Most there are 1800+ so I should expect as much but if anyone in my rating range wants to school with the Alekhine's shoot me a challange!  see you on the black and white ;O)

2.Bc4, forgoing 3.Qf3/h5 in an attempt to garner a hasty mate, is a good move, though! I like it, at the very least, though I suspect that doesn't count for much.

Well, 2. Bc4 is a respectable move, was played by the late Bent Larsen quite often.

If your child learns that its more improtant to win than to play sound logical moves then really you lose.

Sound logical moves are useless if you don't win.  Results are all that matter in chess.  It's not either/or; you need to learn to play sound logical moves that win.

If they are not a Scholar, I am against it. It would be pretentious and phony
