I found 2 master games that were the same up until move 53.

My best guess is that somehow the game was uploaded as a master game from both perspectives, so it's exactly the same. maybe they had a tournament with, say, 50 players, and all of the games that the top 4 players by rating were uploaded to the database, but they played each other, so there was a duplicate. This theory does, however have flaws, in that you would expect this to have happened other times.
