Atheist's Gambit

Sort:

Hello again! I am back with more wierd and extremely awesome openings! This one REFUTES the Bishop's Opening! Nice huh? Alright, here we go. The Atheist's Gambit is named because it refute's our clerical friend's presence early in the game. Here's the opening, it is in the spirit of the Evans Gambit, though I daresay it works BETTER!

The Atheist Gambit is very solid, and white won't be able to castle for a good long while, nor will he be able to refute it. Black takes the center quite instantly.

'very solid' - black sacrifices a pawn early in the game, and compensation is scant at best. :D I'd take the white side in any game. See http://www.chess.com/games/view.html?id=561504# for a straightforward white plan, that wins comfortably.

I don't think that's true for everyone happyface. :)

I think it's called the Atheist Gambit, because you don't have a prayer. Tongue out

Not at an atheist convention.

I never fail to be impressed with the rock solid opinions of players rated <1100 regarding the soundness and validity of openings never played by GMs or IMs

Athiests claim to be the most ''logical'' (and I won't go into a spiritual discussion) but I think this opening isn't the best.. you're basically giving up a free piece to your opponent for a temporary control of the center too early in the game. After the positions change again... and will change since it's just the start of the game... you're still down a piece, don't see the point... best counter moves for white would be to simply retreat the bishop, advance the queen's pawn, and so on.

Edit- didn't notice the black queen advance option too... but still not hard to counter against, moving the dark bishop's pawn a space, allows the white queen to protect the light bishop and defend the center in one movement.

It's not a bad idea, but it's not impossible to counter play.

SoulWatcher, atheists, as a group don't claim anything aside from a nonbelief in supernatural entities. I'm an atheist and I've encountered some of the most blithering idiots in the ranks as well as some intelligent, charming people.

And happyface456, learn your logical fallacies. 3 out of 6 people chosen at random being brainwashed (usualy since birth) is not a good advertisement for brainwashing.

If anyone can provide evidence (not anecdotal reports) for any supernatural claims (ghosts, demons, devils, angels, heavens, purgatories, hells, gods, easter bunnies, tooth fairies &/or leprechauns)...you'd make lots of people (including those who currently believe in such things) extremely happy. Until that evidence is provided, those 'things' are most likely figments of a co-opted imagination.

ALL HAIL ERIS!

Well, is there a buddhist gambit or something like that? lol.

How about ressurecting my lasagna or grilled beef?

Hey, I like the name and the idea. And if someone was silly enough to accept the flank pawn, Black would be better. But Black gambits more than a pawn, he gambits the game, for if White refuses, as I think most players would, then Black is facing a big disadvantage.

Apparently it wasn't over if the thread is still here and open/accepting replies. Ahh the magick of the internet/forums...where you don't have to be involved in the original conversation to enjoy and partake!
