Best opening move

When playing as white I open with d4. I have done for many years. However, I am aware that many people prefer e4 as it is a more aggressive opening. I am hesitant to play e4 because of the many different lines of the opening. I also hate to play against e4 because of the same reasons. There are other openings, such as c4 as well.

Always gambit! giving some pawns gives you more space to move around the board!

Back to the topic the best opening move must be a3! that way you can just play any defence system used for black 1 tempo up! agains't d5 you can go the slav e5 you can go with a reverse sicilian! a3 all the way

Offtopic 1c4 is for sissys!

 queens gambit is the best

1 e4 is the best oppening move. This is because most ametours don't know that you're supposed to decline the queen's gambit. They take the bait after 2 c4 and then you have a huge space advantage after 3 e4.

If they're smart enough to decline the queen's gambit than you still have an advantage with 3 e3.

C4 followed by a fluid English opening seems like a great start for white. It may appear excessively defensive for a white opening but it can often lure a black player into aggression before he has gained the initiative. A quick castle behind the snipers nest at G2 gives a king one of the safest positions as well.

1st.  Queen's gambit accepted is perfectly reasonable line to play.  If your opponents lose, it's not the opening's fault.

2nd.  I don't think it wise to judge an opening solely on how easy it is for beginners to go astray.

3rd.  How do you play 1.e4 and 3.e4.  I've heard of doubled pawns, but this doesn't seem physically possible...

 bobby fischer knows best!

If you want an opening that avoids the copious ammount of theory of e4 and d4 openings you should definitely have a look at King's Indian Attack (and check the games played by Bobby Fischer in this system).

People prefer 1. e4 or 1. d4, but when playing this, Black have many responses, so there's much theory to study - after 1.e4 Black can choose Caro-Kann, Sicilian, Pirc, Scandinavian, French, Aleknine, and 1. ...e5. For starting players it's better to choose 1. c4 odr 1. Nf3

It doesn't take long to learn some lines when playing e4 as white. Ok so its like 6-7 lines but what is the point when people go out of book after 3-4 moves? Atleast those I play do.

With black, simply play modern defence. Problem solved.

1. e4 ROCKS!

Hans Berliner claims that has a forced win with 1.d4, but I still like e4 better.

I am now starting to experiment with e4 but i feel i myself go out of book too and lose the plot
