Top tier for consistency is the Caro Kann.
If half your games as black start with 1.e4, you can play 1...c6 and there's little white can do to avoid some form of the Caro, but they can often decide the variation.
Then if you start as white with 1.e4, many of those games will become the Caro, which you are already familiar with if you learned it from the other side.
More than half of my recent games have been the Caro, from either side.

From this point french is better imo, because there is a lot more "anti-caro kanns" than there is anti-frenches.

englund hartlaub charlick gambit with 66% wins to 34% losses from 38 2...d6 games that improve in the accepted main lines. I just blundered a checkmate today, but was crushing it up 'till then
carokann mieses gambit after 1.e4 e6 2.d4 Be3!? my stats are 58% wins to 40% losses. i did terribly with EVERYTHING I ever tried against the caro, including the maroczy fantasy variation which plays 4.f3 instead of 3.f3 until I got it confused with the french alapin diemer, played it BY ACCIDENT a bunch of games, and instantly started kicking EVERY caro who thinks he can get away with Nf6/Bg4's butt.
my nimzowitsch stats are 77% win after 1.e4 Nc6 2.d4 where I used to be close to 0% as a 1400. don't know why I'm so above average in the 2...d5 3.e5 nimzo scandinavian variation. in looking at the position, I think in the future, I might like to try 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.f3 exf3 5.Nxf3 and try to steer it towards BDG type lines. looking at the 1600-2000 stats, I see it scores 56:41 in 52k games! now I can "BDG" the scandinavian, french, caro AND nimzo! cool! if BDG messes caros up, I bet nimzos'll be crying!
alekhine? 60% wins in 10x 2.Bc4 krejciks and I won 2 out of 3 2.e5 advance variations, like the nimzo, it usedto drive me nuts the same way pirc/mods still do
i've only faced the 1.e4 f6 barnes twice, but am 100% there with the 1st being an 1873!
my scandinavian > gedult blackmar diemer stats are 54:37 in 93 games while my 3.Nc3 mainline stats were a hideous 31:69
my smith morra gambit stats are a respectable 51:46 in the accepted line after 4.Nxc3. the stats are actually better after the 4...Nc6 main line now that I'm playing 4.Nf3 (55:44 in 73 games) and not 4.Bc4 (4 wins in 16 games... 25%!)
I love king's gambit even if my stats are just 49:46 where others score even higher (especially in quades gambit which i don't do)
my stats against 1.e3 van't kruijs are 41:53 stonewalling in 32 games
I have losing stats in pretty much everything else except rare sidelines like winning 4 out of 6 1.Nc3 van geets, or 3 out of 4 1.d3 mieses I think
I agree with poster #2... the FRENCH is way more annoying than the caro!!! I've never had a winning record against it. I'm "happy enough" with my lousy 44:49 stats against it with the alapin diemer where i was 43:57 TRYING to play the monte carlo which just about EVERY trench weasel declined. the only thing I hate worse than the french is pirc/modern/owens
