transpose into an alapin?
Best way to survive the Smith-Morra Gambit?

i saw a video on beating the smith morra gambit it was something like the evans defense or something
here is a video on a game about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34Kk7GccTio
You can decline any gambit, or give the pawn(s) back in time. 2. Nf6 is good if you like that variation of the Alapin sicilian.

Playing a6 is key when you accept the gambit... It has an exclamation mark in Modern Chess Openings!
You can avoid the gambit by playing d3 after 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 d3
but this can transpose into a Maroczy Bind after White plays c4. There
could follow 4.Bxd3 Nc6 5.c4 but Black has to be careful because the
freeing move in the Siclian is d5 but the pawn at c4 prevents this.
The Maroczy Bind could also give you headaches. You could try to break
the bind by playing a6 and b5 or get in e6 and d5.
I've been having some trouble verses the smith-morra gambit recently. Can anyone give me any "safer" lines, or perhaps a solid way to play against it? Thanks!
