Black openings: The Englund gambit

As black, I have a bad win rate as black(45% won to 50% lost 5% drawn). What does this mean? It means I have to get better black openings. So, I am currently looking at the Englund gambit for d4 and Scandinavian or Sicilian for e4, so do you guys have any other suggestions? 780ish btw

At your level / accuracy rate, it doesn't matter. Just try to avoid blunders. 😎

If you ever step up your game, then you will have to absolutely switch defense for at least Black. I'd recommend doing yourself a favor by focusing on a normal opening, and if you want, play the Englud for fun in bullet or other.

I recommend this variation of the Englund, it's known as the Zilbermints Variation:

I love this variation of the Englund

I would suggest the Tarrasch defence or a simple version of the Sicilian like the Najdorf variation

I think playing an opening that can be refuted easily with 6 moves is the wrong foot to start off with at any level. Of course I play gambits with unclear theoretical outcomes a lot but there is a line even I won't cross.

I think the Englund gambit is fine if you just want to have some fun, and isn't really as bad as some make it out to be.

But that's probably because I always give back the pawn and transpose into a king's pawn opening of sorts...

King's Indian Defense has worked really well for me, the biggest thing I've noticed that has helped save me as Black is really focusing on where you opponents latest move is pointing at and what squares can they activate.  By better predicting my opponents gameplan I could cut him off with simple pawn play and get the tempo back in my favor.
