Can anyone suggest to me an opening to crush the "PHILIDOR DEFENSE?"

I have been playing with players who play the Philidor Defense, and I lost most of the games. Please post an opening that can destroy Black...

Look up the Opera Game for some ideas… Fischer has a lecture that someone posted on YouTube that covers it. Also helpful for learning a few tactical ideas in openings in general

You cannot crush the Philidor Defence. It is solid but passive. Just make good use of your space advantage.

It is also dependent upon how it is reached!

If it is reached via 1...e5, White already has the advantage in both the Antoshin and Larsen variations.  The Philidor counter-gambit is about as sound as the Latvian Gambit (I crushed it the other day).  Attempts to reach the hanham are answered by dxe5.

If Black tries to reach it via the Pirc (1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 intending 3...e5 or 3...Nbd7 and 4...e5), you have a few choices.

1) Allow it via 3.Nc3 and 4.Nf3

2) Allow just the 3...e5 line, but go anti-Hanham with 3.Nc3 and either 4.f4 or 4.g4.

3) Avoid it all together and play 3.f3.  You need to be ready for 3...e5 (usually leads to an Old Indian after 4.d5 and 5.c4) or the Saemisch King's Indian (3...g6 4.c4 Bg7 5.Nc3).

You will need to study a book like The Philidor Files (and a book on the Saemisch KID if you go that route).  You will not have success just playing a line suggested blindly or via some stupid 20 minute U-Tube video.

Indeed the Pirc move order narrows down white's choices.
However, Philidor is viable. Here is a recent example:

By the way, here is that "crush" referenced in post 6.

Based on TCEC data, best 3600 rated engines like Stockfish and Lco could not find forced win for white ( draw).

No win yet with current technology and data.

Though this person is most likely asking for a way to win against a human, and humans are bound to blunder and make mistake’s. OP is not asking for an opening against a computer.

Most people play it, because they're lazy and want to find a one-shot cure to why they lose all the time. Use that against them.

3...f5? is bad, as already pointed out by Philidor himself

Chess is a tough game.

Here the OP lost...but yeah about François-André Danican Philidor....he was French.

I doubt that's a real game. It looks more like a lesson on mating patterns.

It is a very solid but passive defense. There is no easy way to quickly crush it. Two suggestions: after 1e4  e5 play 2.f4, or start with 1.d4. These may not be the kind of games you wish to play, but you won't be stuck in a type of game you don't like playing vs people who always beat you using it.

It might be worthwhile checking out Negi's book titled 1. e4 vs The French, Caro-Kann & Philidor.

That only works if you're playing a terrible opponent (or in that case, two terrible opponents.)

Still a useful game to see some basic tactics/sacrifices.
