Hi i’m new to chess and i am trying to learn the starting positions and line of the Caro Kaan opening there are lessons here but they aren’t what im looking for what website should i use

You can use chessgames.com to look at grandmaster games in the Caro-kaan and there are a lot of videos on the internet. I specifically like the hanging pawns YouTube channel. You should watch his CK series. I hope this helps!

Also, your opponents may not know the main lines, so it is important to study your own games so you know what to do against the lines they play even if they are dubious

Well actually if you're a beginner you should stick to I guess kings or queens pawn

Thanks for the advice

I doubt that you can find any games or videos about that "Caro-kaan", as it doesn't exist.

Pappa_Rodger

Should you not be preparing for Gaethje???

yes

Ok, I mistyped Caro-kaan and Caro-Kann, I didn’t know it was a big deal.
YourKingHasFallen2012
Naihika54, do you even know what the Caro-Kann is?
naihika54

YourKingHasFallen2012, yeah its a little defensive opening for the black. its starts with c6, d5. but if whites knows the Caro-Kann whites gonna play e4, d4, e5

YourKingHasFallen2012
The advance variation is a good line for white, but the classical variation is what I play and I enjoy the positions in the tartakower variation. I really hope I didn’t misspell Tartakower.

Its a big deal if you try to search for it, because "caro-kaan" wont yield too many results grin

Nothing wrong with Caro-Kann for beginners. Its an easy opening to learn. Of course white still has ways to try to break through the robust defense, such as the accelerated Panov

or two Knights, possibly followed by the Alien Gambit

or the infamous Fantasy

And there is of course always the question of king security, which can go wrong easily since we often no longer have the Bc8 to defend the king, and king side may get cramped, too. But overall Caro-Kann is more robust, less trappy and easier to learn than many other openings.

MariasWhiteKnight

Oh and usually you will of course just face the three standard answers from white.

Advance Variation

Exchange Variation

Defense (?) Variation (doesnt actually have a name):

YourKingHasFallen2012
The name for the last one: after black takes the pawn, white recaptures, Bf5 is the classical, and Nf6 is the tartakower. The classical is not as popular as the Tartakower.
YourKingHasFallen2012
And I am not sure if the accelerated panov and alien gambit are things to be worried about. I go to a lot of Over-The-Board tournaments, and I find that the fantasy is the third most common over exchange. But, my uscf is 1842, so maybe rating makes a difference.
YourKingHasFallen2012
I think the advance is most popular, Classical variation is second most popular, and fantasy comes next.

Anything wrong with the Panov?
