Just started playing Bf5 as opposed to Nf6, so far so good - problem is most of my opponents do not play 3.Nc3, seems to be split between advance and Panov.
caro-kann 4..Bf5 and 4..Nd7

yes, it is unfortunate that the variation is kind of there choice. but i believe them choosing andvance helps me with my positional game any way.
what is so good about the caro-kann is your pawn structure can almost always stay intact. which is good for endgame

james in your annotation it asks what is the reason for chasing the bishop then exchanging it.
well i believe the idea for white is to use the extra tempo for expansion on the king side. this is good for white in the middle game but a little worse in the endgame

I have found that as white i like to play 5. Ng3 ... Bh3 6. Nf3 which is still a bookish move but i have seen it go 6. h4 ... h6 7. h5 ... Bh7 8. B d3 ...
i dont like this variation as white.. below is a game played vs P2P (hope you dont mind) where i think i did alright as white in the opening.. my idea was to liquidate both sides with an early Nf3 so i had the option of castling where i pleased.. my biggest problem in chess right now is knowing what to do with all that extra time and a lead in development.
although these lines are considered boring and drawish for black i have had some good wins after white tried to attack too much.
My preference is 4..Bf5
Do any of you cutt-throats play these lines.
if so how are they working for you?
If you guys post some of your problems you are having with these lines maybe the rest of us can help you out in the forum.
