5...h5!? could probably work
Instead of f6?? which loses immediately, try fxe6 followed by Bf7
Hmm, h5 is not a bad idea, I will test it. bxf6 followed by Bf7 is not so good, it will still give a positional weakness for black, but maybe I can give the pawn back after blaying e5 followed by e6.
I wait other's answers as well, but it was quite usefull.
Edit: Ok so. After g4. Be4 white has the move f3, which will lead to quite same situation. I have to go back with the bishop, and white can play e6.
Good Question. Like you stated in your analysis g4 is an aggresive move but also commital and weakening to whites pawn position. I believe that 4.g4 is sharp and forces black to find correct moves but is not best. I think lines that run 4.Nc3, 5. g4 are probably sharper objectivly for white.I would suggest looking at Sam Shankland's Caro Kann series on the Advance Variation part 1 which reviews the aggresive lines 4.h4 ; 4.g4 and 4.Nc3
One side note before I say more is also look into 4. g4 Bd7 giving Black a french position where g4 is a misplaced pawn. If you already play the french you may feel this is more comfortable and you take white out of their prep and back to closed positional games.
This is how I would play these positions as a Caro Kann player
I would love to hear other peoples ideas in these lines and I hoped this helped a little or gets more people discussing these critical lines.
Keep in mind that you are worrying about blacks 1 positional weakness when white has 0 pieces developed and played e4, d4, e5, g4, f3, h4, and e6
Hello everybody!
I have a problem with the caro-kann defense. It is a good opening, but I rarery play it. (I prefer french or sicilian instead) But nowadays I dont really like the sicilian, (Because I prefer closed games currently) so I should play Caro-kann instead. I played a game long time ago with it, and I had serious problems after g4.
I wont play correctly the moves we played, I just show the idea, because I have problem with that.
