Played by Gurgendize as black against Tal in the 26th Soviet Championship in 1968. It seems to bee an interesting line. Any ideas on it?

Another nice sacrificial game by Tal!

Yeah, Tal's simple 4 a3! seems to make ...b5 look silly.

Robert_New_Alekhine

looking at the pros and cons:

              Pros:  The move threatens b4

Cons: the move premanently weakens the queenside and slighlty hinders the activity of black's light-squared bishop,

After weighing the pros and cons, we see that the move Tal played, a3, is correct.

                                           White is better.

Seeing that dxe4 isn't very pleasent for black, what about Nf6?

The idea for the pawn sacrifice on e6 came from:

Robert_New_Alekhine

Because of the structur - pawns on e6 and f7, there are ideas similar as to ideas in the panov-botvinnik attack, sacrificing a piece on g6, e6, and f7. I will give some examples later.

Either 4.a3 or 4.e5 are fine. What's the big idea behind 3...b5?

Ask the person who first played it.

Rather not. Bukhuti Gurgenidze passed away 6 years ago.

    Basically, I meant " Don't ask me"

Probably should not have done an extra large diagram...
