Today I am sharing a class on the Ruy Lopez opening which is one of the most popular openings in chess that every player should know basics of. We are going to learn from the great Alireza Firouzja and follow his game against grandmaster.
In my opinion to teach why each move was made and what each sides middle game plans is a good place to start. Every opening learned without a plan is not a good practice. Covering many lines for several different sidelines is also a big way to see how far to go into each variation. If you teach your students only 10 moves into the opening and they play another person and the person deviates From their move sequence on move 5 then your students will know how to address a deviation by using their middle game plan and other learned concepts.
