Ive been playing the Leningrad Dutch for a while and can't really see how it fits my more agressive/open position style Frown. So someone reccommended the Grunfeld Defense to me so should i play it or not? Can anyone tell me at least the types of positions you get out of it? Thank you.

I recommended the Gruenfeld to you, because you asked for a more tactical opening with some space to maneuver pieces than you had with the Leningrad. What are your concerns? Just go and play it and you will see if suits to your style. For God sake....you don't get married with the openings, it's like t-shirts. You keep change it and occasionally you insist with one of them. Just like that!

The Gruenfeld it's a highly theoretical opening that requires a lot of study if you considering to follow theory and play it properly. I told you to find two books of Boris Avrukh about the Gruenfeld and use it to your games so to learn how to get good positions after the opening but that is not enough to win games. The Gruenfeld it's an opening that test your tactical ability and positional understanding all the way, so be prepared to enjoy some good times!

P.S : And stop consider....just play!

Ok, here is a game of mine I finished today playing the Gruenfeld. It's not some kind of brilliance but it can show to you what kind of positions you can expect and what's the general philosophy playing with and against it. My opponent followed the theory for some couple of moves when he suddenly thought wise to deviate from the book and try something different. In this kind of positions where your opponents go out of book there are many details which only Masters can teach to you not me and of course your tactical ability and positional understanding that will make the difference. I hope to give you some idea.

Leningrad Dutch and King's Indian Defense are more aggressive than Grünfeld Indian Defense.
Grünfeld Indian Defense forces black to defend against an attack on the king, but promises a good endgame if the defense is successful.

I eventually want to learn the Grunfeld but sticking with the Slav for now

I have gotten really good at attacking and positional play but I needed openings to work on the first opening I ever learned is the french and grunfeild they are soooo fun to play as black.
