Oh I forgot, black usually plays here either ...e6 or ...Qb6 attacking b2.
D13 - Slav Exchange middle game plans

Definitely castle,
Queen to c2 and rook to c1 applying the pressure on the c file. Other ideas would be e4 and Ne5.
And looks like white is ahead in development as it is.

Thank you. Do you think that Ne5 combined with pressure on the c file can create an advantage? Say a black backward pawn on the c file by exchange of Knights on c6?

I think it's difficult to say for sure but black still has to move the e pawn and develop his bishop and then castle. He is behind the development a bit.
Exchaning knights and putting pressure on black backward pawn on c file is definitely one strategic idea!
Also, moving the b-pawn and attacking backward c-pawn and breaking up the pawns is another idea down the road.
Also, another idea is to play on the queenside. You have 2 bishops that point or hopefully would get good diagonals and point to the queenside eventually!
Hi I am currently studying the Slav exchange variation for white. I would like to know if black plays 6...a6 what middle game plans are there?
Here is the position, what plan to construct for white and how do I get an advantage?
Edit: Black usually plays here e6 or Qb6.
