Danish Gambit no longer recognized?

Sort:

I play the Danish gambit frequently, and in the game analysis, all main and side-lines of the danish were recorded as book moves, with the ‘book symbol’. Now all the sudden, Danish gambit is not recognized as book moves in the analysis. Even playing 2.e5 is not considered book. Anyone know the reason for this change?

**correction: Even playing 2. d4 is not considered book.

Anyone know about this? Heard of other common openings being removed from the ‘book moves’ label. Bug maybe?

Haruuuuuuuu

As a danish gambit enjoyer I was asking myself the same question without getting any answers. So I just want to bump this if someone knows the answer.
Maybe they just found the perfect counterplay to the danish gambit giving in a majority of the game a adventage for black ?
Hope chess.com you can aswer this change, cause I can't get 100% acc with this opening anymore ._.

If I go to "Openings" in the chess.com menus and put in the Danish gambit moves, I find the 4. Bc4 and 4. Nxc3 variations named as usual.

While the engine evaluation is in favour of black, it is likely that both these variations are sound, just as it is that many black defences are probably sound despite small evaluation disadvantage.

So, in your game review, the software is just reminding you that these variations have a low evaluation compared with mainline moves. Not a problem, just reality!

I think it's because the engine hates the danish sad.png

Don't worry. It's still legal to play it.

It makes your surprise weapon even more of a surprise!

Same issue here; even better the game review seems to flag all pawn gambits in the Danish,Goring, and Scotch gambits as bad moves.

I shake my clawed badger fist at you, chess engine!

The Schlecter Defense starting with 5..d5 gives black a slightly better endgame. 3 .. d5 and 3 .. Qe7 are also good.

It is a fine opening against players who don't know those lines. Above a ceertain levvel though, the Goring gambit and Scotch gambit are bettter

I feel the lack of the slightly inferior (but very likely sound) centre game - 1. e4 e5 2. d4 - in the openings is inappropriate given that lines that have far less going for them remain, such as the slightly comical (and slightly inferior) 1. d4 Nf6 2. d5, which is a named variation.

Heck even 1. g4 is a named variation, and this is so positionally inferior that it is possible it loses for white with perfect play.
