Just take the pawn for free, and if white takes back, win a free move with ...Nc6
Dealing with the Center Game?

Ditto to Cherub's comments. Just take the pawn and make White lose a tempo via Qxd4 ...Nc6, which is why White doesn't play that opening more often. Oh, and watch for White falling into the following opening trap. I won two OTB games that way within one year, and both times White resigned on the 4th move!

I think he talks about this stuff about developing with tempo in the first chapter.
Anyways, why did you consider 2...d6 and 2...Nc6 but not 2...edx4, I am curious, I want to get in your head.
Basically, I don't want my opponent's Queen out in the middle of the board so early in the game. It makes me nervous
Oh, I thought you meant Chernev specifically addresses the Centre Game? Update: just checked, it's not in the index of openings.

I meant that Chernev talks about moving the queen too early and things like that.
Why does it make you nervous? You have literally no targets for the queen, and that juicy knight on b8 is coming out with tempo.
I agree with you, if you can not kick the queen then taking on d4, forcing it to a centralized post is usually not good, but here you can kick it from d4.
No, really, chepassyer, I'm not being sarcastic.
2Q: I use this colour scheme in many of my chess apps. I find it very clear.

White lost three pawns,
then he lost an exchange,
then he lost a piece,
and still didn't resign against the World Champion!
He played another move.
HAHAHAHAHA

That evaluation will drop and drop as the game goes on.

I personally play 1.Nc6 because I enjoy the positions, I enjoy playing a game of chess and not some competition of memory. I found after years of playing the dragon that I tended to rarely get any of the lines that I had looked at and that the play was boring because we were just trotting out move after move of "theory" and not playing chess, I found it stale and uninspiring. Playing unorthodox openings has reignited my love for chess, I have found no reason why I should play it, yes I don't play people 2400 and above but frankly most people don't play these players. There are players in my OTB league who do take on these players in Najdorfs, Kings Indians... all manner of theoretical openings and lose
Can someone post some good advice on how to deal with this opening for Black? It's really frustrating to play against. It seems you're always gonna lose at least a pawn or your castling rights.
If you play 2. Nc6, he plays 3.d5 and forces your knight to d4, where he hits it with his dark-squared bishop or a pawn, you're gonna lose the knight whatever happens and then probably your e-pawn as well (assuming he capures with the bishop).
But if you play 2. d6, he plays 3. dxe5 and when you recapture, he takes your Queen and you losing castling rights.
Is there a good way out of this hell? Thanks.
