It's just trendy at the moment.
Do London players understand that they are playing boring chess?

Don’t get me started.
I get it that it is quick and easy to learn but it’s just not my cup of tea.
Are there players who play the London exclusively?

Apparently the current world champion (Carlsen) believes the London System to be good enough to venture against a former world champion (Kramnik) in the World Blitz Championship....

Introduction To The London System & Jobava London System...

Actually it favors the opponent when players play London System regularly. Predictable
Can analyze games against the London System.

Sometimes I play it in bullet and hyper-bullet when I want to mix things up a bit, it's not bad, especially if someone builds a nice repertoire around it. I'm an e4 player, but if I started learning with the queen's pawn then it might be my favorite opening today, but as I'm 1400-ish now, I don't feel like starting my entire repertoire over with queen's pawn openings.

My experience with the system is that even if the opening itself may not be the most exciting, that seldom applies to the game as a whole. You just have to wait a little longer before the actions begins.

So Magnus, Aronian, Kamsky - they all play boring chess?
By the way, London is Slav reversed and sometimes CK exchange as well. You should extend your verdict...

I used to hate facing the London. Now I regard it as a sort of moral victory as well as a chess victory if/when I win. So, I look forward to playing against it...

A hundred years ago, the Four Knights Game was fashionable. Fifty years before that, all the cool kids played the Guioco Piano.
Different lines go in and out of fashion at different times. In fact, when a line is largely abandoned it is usually because some other line has become fashionable, not because it has been shown to be unsound.

Yeah, Magnus uses London in his world championship matches.
London is really boring and passive system, and the reason why people play it because it is less theory heavy and requires no thinking at all.
Magnus plays London system just like Naka plays Bongcloud.

indeed. "Thou protest too much...". As the saying goes. Heh. As a d4 player, I'm quite comfortable facing any and all such systems as black because, yeah... I know my way around these openings. Chess is all about 'give n take'. A dance. One leads for abit, one follows then after a time; the other leads, the other follows. If you try to overplay then that's them breaks. Alot of people try (on defense) to either get aggressive or block everything. Never just staying focused on equalizing first. Keeping your head on a swivel and being patient eludes a lot of players as black. Just blaming it on white's system is the trend. Not playing. IMHO. I dont play the London personally, but if I did I can say I would know how to play it effectively and not play it 'just because'. As black, it's been my experience that whomever is playing a trending line really doesn't know what they're doing and if you just stay disciplined you'll eck out the W. Soo please save your rhetoric and offer a more substantive comment vs the London other than it's boring (in your opinion). Playin's always the thing with me my friend. ✌🏽

Well, you're right, but no one can deny that the french's exchange variation is boring.

GMs are capable of playing boring chess as well lol. Kramnik literally bored Kasparov into giving up the world championship title
Do they like draws or what is it?
