e4 d5

You can do what you feel most comfortable doing. 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 is most common. Black will likely reply Qa5 or Qd6. Qe5 by black is possible, but Be2 is the most common reply there.

Most people prefer 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qe5 4. Be2 but black's queen would just eventually try to capture g2 and eventually capture white's King rook

I've learned that blacks aim, if he chooses to give a check with the queen and you just develop your bishop, his aim is to trade as many pieces off as possible to make up his lack of development. If you are white just try and avoid trading too many pieces, but I do find it annoying that black is trying for a draw at the very beginning of the opening...

Try 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nf3! Later on you can put your d and c Pawns on the 4th rank. I think this gives White an easier opening to play. You can check out Game Explorer in Chess.com
3. Nc3 gains a tempo on the Queen, but it blocks the c-pawn.
The Scandanavian is one of those supposedly inferior defences, that can be a real bugaboo to defeat.

@Haydoman, after Be2 the queen can't capture g2 from e5. Be2 is the best response to Qe5+

Yep, I was referring to the OP's line, explaining the most common reply after Qe5+, instead of the line originally posted of Qe2 allowing queen trades.

I have to disagree about Black's aim to draw the game w/ the Scandinavian. It can be very tactical especially if Black continues after White exd5 w/ Nf6 followed by c6
Correct. One of the strongest players I personally knew played the Scandinavian. He was not looking for a draw. He was great at whipping up complications. His plan was to draw White into an unfamiliar tactical game then slice him to pieces.
However, he didn't play that Nf6/c6 gambit.

2... qxd5 seems to be the most popular move in a couple of opening databases I looked at. It's a mystery to me because white gains a tempo with 3. nc3. Can anybody tell me about the disadvantages for white in that position?

Why am I seeing discussion on 3. Qe5+? terrible move...
Because the OP asked about it
So you say you don't like it when black plays Qe5+ and you tell Martin you don't want to play Be2 after Qe5+ because the queen can take g2... I try to tell you the queen can't take g2 from e5, then you try to prove me wrong by posting a line where the queen never even goes to e5.... LOL. Peace.
