I have tried every response to e4, the sicilian, caro kann, french, pirc, modern and none of them really did the job for me. I am current trying e5 and from last month. I have played 18 games with e5 and won 13 of them. I want to learn how to play against italian and ruy lopez but there is not enough material on yt. please suggest some books. thanks

One line I use to like is known as Arkhangelsk (I call it AA for Short)

I don’t play it much anymore, but it was nice line vs. Ruy Lopez.

"the sicilian, caro kann, french, pirc, modern and none of them really did the job" ++ OK

"I am current trying e5" ++ Great

"I want to learn how to play against italian" ++ 3...Nf6 or 3...Bc5

"and ruy lopez" ++ 3...Nf6 or 3...a6

"but there is not enough material" ++ There is much material.

"please suggest some books" ++ The best book is a data base.

It is unclear which line of the Ruy Lopez you play as Black, but I have heard positive things about this book and it is on a line that has been a hot topic of late.

The Ark Angel line is very Anti-Ruy Lopez.

The Ruy Lopez often has a theme of playing c3 + d4 and trying to establish 2 center pawns side by side in the middle (D4 & E4)

The Ruy Lopez has a very famous knight rerouting set of moves b1-d2-f1

These are the running themes/plans the Ruy Lopez has.

Most Black responses vs. Ruy Lopez do nothing to stop theme

- Chirgon

- Breyer

- Dozen other lines as well

The Ark Angel is unique because it tries to punish white if they do their normal plan.

This is what makes the line fun because it is more or less bating white to know their stuff and if they don’t they get in trouble very fast.

‘The only down side is if you play vs. person who actually knows what they are doing Black often doesn’t have much going for themselves other than a draw.

This is more or less why I stopped playing it when I got stronger in chess.

To many draws

Until you reach GM, that won't matter. If you know what you are doing, you'll still win.

Ever since I took up playing the Symmetrical Variation of the Exchange French as Black, which was August 2014 - prior to that I would try to castle queenside to break symmetry - I have faced the Exchange about 80 times. I have lost literally 4 times and never in a time control slower than game in 1 hour. All 4of them were G/60 or faster. On the flip side, I have maybe 20 or so draws, and the rest, some number in the mid-50s, were wins for Black!

Drawish and Draw are not the same.
