Ive been hearing about this gambit a lot lately. Could someone give insights about this gambit

Basically... Yes.

It's unsound, 3.Nxe5 and White has a superior position with simple moves.

In my opinion, there is no need for 3.exd5 e5 4.Qe2, where Black gets some compensation for the pawn. Just 3.Nxe5 and don't try to hold the pawn for long, Black's position is awful regardless (underdevelopment, f7 weakness).

I've won with 1.e5 a6 a couple of times too.

Doesn't make it good.

Then maybe you can show us this "simple moves"...i have studied the theory of this opening for a long time and played many matches with it (corr.Chess, blitz and OTB) and i was very pleased with my results. The best result White can achieve is a += position with equal material, not so bad for a Black Gambit.

Second...after 3.exd5 only 3...Bd6 is the original Elephant Gambit and much stronger than 3...e4.

I wrote an article for Chessville on the Elephant Gambit. See link

I went over the book on the Elephant Gambit by Jonathan Rogers
where he advocated the line 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d5 3.exd5 Bd6 and Black
will play the f5 move soon after. There are also Elephant Gambit
games in the book by Dr. Phillip Corbin "The Caribean Tal". His
book is called "Calypso Chess".
