English vs. French

I've seen the English opening, and it mostly focuses on the queenside and attacking the center. More variations on the English seem open.

The French defense for black seems to be the opposite of that, as it is more closed when playing the advance variation, supports kingside, and is more defensive.

Does this generally seem to be the case?

The Anglo-French

This seems to be the merged version of the English and French where everything seems to even out except for the fact that White is a pawn up but has doubled pawns, and black has no central pawns. What is supposed to happen here, what is the continuation?

The French does not give Black kingside play.  Black's play is on the Queenside.

When the center is blocked, look at the direction the blocked pawns point.  In the French, Black's point Queenside, White Kingside.  Black's play is therefore on the Queenside!
