exchange french gambit

i looked into it a while back and it seemed dubious with very little compensation. black is up in development but the pieces can't really get into any strong squares, and white can quickly equalize in development and simply be up a pawn.

It's utter bleep. Complete trash!

The same position can be reached through 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 e6 move order. Black gets nowhere near enough for a pawn. It's probably still possible to play this with success, but there are so many more promising gambits against 1.e4 I don't know why anyone would bother.
It is basically an Icelandic Gambit with a pawn on d4 instead of c4 for white. This massively favours white, since he just has no weaknesses, can develop easily and be up a pawn for basically nothing.

I looked at it with the computer and it actually doesn't seem to be that bad. With moves such as c5 and qb6, black can get a pretty overwhelming position. I honestly might try it out as it seems promising.

Good luck with whatever gambit you're ATTEMPTING. no one runs from gambits like feench players. Couldn't get ANYONE to accept the exchange variation monte carlo gambit and always wound up with an annoying pawn traffic jam in the center.
I love me BDG style alapin diemer though. Poodles like taking on e and f
