In the Fried Liver attack Traxler variation (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 Bc5 5. Nxf7 Bxf2+) why is 6. Kxf2 not played? I understand 5. Bxf7 is considered much superior to Nxf7 because of the bishop check, but where is the decisive attack for black if white accepts the bishop sac?

Well,Kxf2 leads to this:

Kf1 leads to this:

Thanks for the reply! I went back to check out why 7. Ke3 is best (I've always played Ke1) and I see the brutal 7... Qh4+ 8. g3 Nxg3! I'm glad nobody I've played has realized that, heh. With the home rank unsafe, I completely get that taking the bishop is ugly.

Kxf2 is fine for white but very complicated, here's an example line

This is nothing to do with the Fried Liver. That is 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5?! 6.Nxf7!? Only 6.Nxf7 in this line is the Fried Liver.

and i want to ask, how about line 6.Bxf7? it's any advantage for black?

Conquistador

Advantage for black?  No.  Actually it is the reverse.  But it is playable.  The old main lines are refuted from my studies.  But I have been working on it and it is no longer refuted.

5.Bxf7+ Kf8!? 6.Bb3 d5?! is a fun little gambit and is really the only line that justifies Kf8.  If white is timid, they will be destroyed.

The old main line 5.Bxf7+ Ke7 6.Bb3 Rf8? is done.  7.d3 d6 8.Be3, 7.0-0 followed by 8.Nc3, and the critical line 7.Nc3 is miserable for black.

The other old main line 5.Bxf7+ Ke7 6.Bd5 Rf8? has not found a resource against the Sloughter Plan of 7.Bxc6 dxc6 8.Nf3 that comes close to equalizing.  In addition, there are a few other lines that are problematic.

5.Bxf7+ Ke7 6.Bb3 Qe8! is best.

5.Bxf7+ Ke7 6.Bd5 d6! is best.

And then you might see the move 6.Bc4 which is untested and unknown theorywise.

Lots of fun!

what are the moves similar to the fried liver attack, but the queen is involved and ther is a pin on the black rook on h8 using queen and knight?
