Friz 13 or Deep Fritz 13?

I wonder why people pay the money for fritz. Stockfish is a stronger engine and it is free.

Hi.

I was looking for a chess engine to start analyzing my tournament games, and now I'm torn between Regular Fritz and deep fritz:

Normal Fritz costs around $40

Deep Fritz costs around $80 but is apparently a stronger engine and thinks around 60% faster.

So, i suppose my question is: Is Deep Fritz worth the extra $30-40?

If you have  multiprocessor, better to go with Deep Frtiz.

People would, I imagine, be playing for the Fritz interface which connects to www.playchess.com. One can load the Stockfish engine into the Fritz interface after.

not worth coz in fritz 13 alone you can put houdini 4 , deep rybka 4 , komodo 6 and deep fritz engine in chessbase interface and you dont need to buy that program,,, why pay if there is free??????

As someone else and me mentioned, one prefers the Fritz interface, to play on www.playchess.com, and also to better interface with the database features of Chessbase, which Deep Fritz probably works well with. It's like paying for www.chess.com, one gets more features that they are interested in.

There is one case where one should clearly get Deep Fritz/Deep Houdini, that is if one has an Intel Xeon processor that has 8 or more cores. Probably there are 6+ core processing options from AMD and ARM also.

i have houdini 4 pro in my dual core loptap and it is fine coz i am using fritz 13 interface.... it is more powerful if you put the engine in chess arina 3.0

About 15 months ago I asked in this forum whether I should upgrade from Fritz 13 x32 to Deep Fritz x64. I never did install Deep Fritz but have since installed Houdini 4 x64 (up from Houdini 3 x64) using my existing Fritz 13 GUI and am happy with it both Houdinis and sort of happy with Fritz 13 as a GUI.

I had previously upgraded my Intel dual core processor to quad core. I tried Arena as a GUI (because of continuing frustrations with Fritz 13, e.g. why does it revert to Blitz mode from Infinite Analysis, when I rarely play blitz?) but I found it hard to adjust to Arena after becoming used to Fritz 13.

I understand the comment above "why pay if there is free"? Before I installed Houdini 3 x64 I had tried the free Houdini 1.5a x64. I played computer engine tournaments between Fritz 13 x32, Deep Rybka 1.4 x 64, Strelka 5.5 x64 and Houdini 3 x64 (I have not yet played a tournament with Houdini 4 x64). I found that the free Houdini 1.5a x64 performed well, beating Fritz 13 x32 in all games and the other x64 engines in some games, although Houdini 3 x64 won most games.

If that amount of money was a problem with me, I would be happy with the free Houdini 1.5a x64 (or even Houdini 1.5 x32 under my original Intel dual core processor) running under the free Arena GUI. But it isn't and, within reason, I want to have the best that I can afford.
