I've just downloaded the Kindle sample of Jovanka Houska's Caro-Kann book and I'm gaining a lot from it. It does go deep into theory (much beyond my level or ability) but does a good job of explaining principles as it goes. Would recommend. Interestingly I also recently wrestled with whether to make the Caro or Taimanov my main e4 defence and settled on the Caro. Slightly differently to you I've gone for 3...c5 against the advanced as the structures that emerge are often more similar to queen's pawn games which I feel more confident in.
Hello,
I want to look for a book with many caro kann games which are explained. I have problems against e4 and I just need help to understand the caro Kann defense. The problem is that I know some move orders and some plans but I need games to understand the Caro Kann better.
I can play Bf5 against the classical variation. Against the advance variation I play 3.Bf5 and I want to avoid early endgames because I want to create winning possibilities. So my question is which are good books for the caro kann defense(rather an explained game collection).
If I do not find such books I want to switch the opening. I already looked for some openings, mostly sicilian and e5 but I did not like them too. Najdorf is too sharp and one wrong move and you will lose because your oppent attacks you much faster and e5 had to much gambits etc. My only hope is the Taimanov sicilian or Caro Kann.
