Good openings for 1000 elo player?

I’m about 1000 but once I start playing 1000 elo players I lose a few games straight usually. I don’t know very many openings and I usually lose when my opponent does a queens pawn opening. Any suggestions for openings and/or counters to the queens pawn opening?

Opening Principles:

  1. Control the center squares – d4-e4-d5-e5
  2. Develop your minor pieces toward the center – piece activity is the key
  3. Castle
  4. Connect your rooks

Tactics...tactics...tactics...

The objective of development is about improving the value of your pieces by increasing the importance of their roles. Well-developed pieces have more fire-power than undeveloped pieces and they do more in helping you gain control.

Now we will look at 5 practical things you can do to help you achieve your development objective.

They are:

  1. Give priority to your least active pieces.
  • Which piece needs to be developed (which piece is the least active)
  • Where should it go (where can its role be maximized)
  1. Exchange your least active pieces for your opponent’s active pieces.
  2. Restrict the development of your opponent’s pieces.
  3. Neutralize your opponent’s best piece.
  4. Secure strong squares for your pieces.

Don’t help your opponent develop.

There are 2 common mistakes whereby you will simply be helping your opponent to develop:

  1. Making a weak threat that can easily be blocked
  2. Making an exchange that helps your opponent to develop a piece

Pre Move Checklist:

  1. Make sure all your pieces are safe.
  2. Look for forcing moves: Checks, captures, threats. You want to look at ALL forcing moves (even the bad ones) as this will force you look at, and see the entire board.
  3. If there are no forcing moves, you then want to remove any of your opponent’s pieces from your side of the board.
  4. If your opponent doesn’t have any of his pieces on your side of the board, then you want to improve the position of your least active piece.
  5. After each move by your opponent, ask yourself: "What is my opponent trying to do?"

Several openings suggestions in my blog....

In particular, as White you might like to give the Vienna Game & Gambit a try. By introducing 2.Nc3 it is considered an improved version of the King's Gambit. The point being to establish increased control of the center by protecting e4 and adding a second defender of the central square d5. All this in anticipation of initiating an attack on the kingside beginning with the move f4. The opening is very popular at the amateur level, and playable even by advanced players.

I gotchu bro. For white if u want a kings pawn grind the scotch, it’s stupid easy to learn and it’s very solid. For queens pawn London and queen gambit are incredible at this level. For black u want a counter for queens pawn. Just start by d5ing then play normally, I know saying play normally sounds like bad advice but just play normal responsive moves and you should do fine. And lastly if u haven’t looked into the kings Indian then do that. Got me up like 300 points. If u wanna learn any of these just look up gothamchess’s YouTube video about them

If you are able to fix the mistakes I made in this game you should be able to beat an 1000 rated person.

You need something solid and consistent for black against 1.d4. Somthing where you will get your pieces out and not get caught undeveloped without king safety. Try King's Indian Defense. You get a castled position behind a developed Bishop and both Knights are developed. You have a basic plan of what to develop and why, also where to attack.

Openings at 1000 literally don't matter it's just who can take the most hanging pieces

I'm almost at 1200, and my advice against d4 is you have 2 and only 2 amazing choices. There are other good ones, but the two are d5 and Nf6.

Nf6 if you want to play a Kings indian, nimzo-indian/bogo-indian, benoni, budapest, or grunfeld.

The old benoni starts with c5, and if black captures, you can always win the pawn back when you need to with Qa5+. (make sure the square isn't defended/the check part is important.)

If black plays c4, which is common, you can play e6 for the 5 other openings, and g6 for a king's indian.

d5 if you're willing to learn the london/jobava/colle, queen's gambit, or blackmar. If you play the french or caro-kann as black, transpose if you see a blackmar. for the queen's gambit, never accept it. ever. It pretends to be a gambit and you just surrender the center for white. you also cant hand onto the pawn because of various traps.

you have 3 good options, none of them completely lose if you know how to play. Play the slav if you want a semi-slav or normal slav. Declining with e3 gives a lot of variations. The albin countergambit has a trap, but other than that it can limit development. There are others, but they're mostly very tricky or have disadvantages.

A london/jobava/colle usually starts with nf3, nf6, bf4, and you play bf5. this is probably the most popular opening because players rarely ever get into trouble. For a jobava, play c6, because people play it to fork your king and rook. Some start with bf5, and the best way is to mirror it. If they want to trade bishops, bring the bishop back so if they trade, hxg6. Usually, your king is safe in the center for the time and you bring both rooks for the attack. You can often sack a rook for the mate, but make sure it works before hand. its also better to sack a pawn or lower rated piece like a knight. Lastly, you fight for the e4 square as black, and the queen's knight is used to protect that.

You are 1000 bro you dont need to choose an opening you should do puzzles there are so many puzzles on the internet on other sites because your opponent will make blunders and you should use this blunders or you can learn some traps it it is useful at 1000 level but just do puzzles so many times for mating for tactics about 20-40 puzzles a day will be good but just think dont rush with the puzzle and if possibble get some books and use it and it willl help you

User_075

I prefer you to study nimzo indian it is solid not hard as kings indian defence but do puzzles it will help you so much
