Hey all . I’ve tried the book learning route and studying that way just doesn’t work for me . Im a video rinse and repeat guy
Anyway so far the streamers I’ve watched have been Gotham and ginger gm I don’t necessarily play the openings they do but I like the concepts and ideas based way of teaching
I’ve watched a bit of Hikaru but honestly I don’t learn when I watch him , I just sit there with my mouth open thinking “how tf is he doing this” it’s just so far ahead and to what I’ve seen not very idea based (or ideas are too complex for a dummy like me)
I tried hanging pawns too but I find his channel more theory based rather than idea based so I don’t recall as well as I need too
For years i was around 700-900 and this year I finally broke through and have been hovering around 1350 and peaked at 1500 I ain’t looking to become a 2100 or IM or anything . Would like to get to maybe around 1700/1800 this year . So need to do some study . Im just looking for some streamers that people would say are more “idea “ based rather than straight strict theory
Or Maybe 1800 isint achievable without strict theory
I find I learn best watching players play and explain “why” as they go

So looking for some suggestions on players out there that you have seen with content like that . Any advice would be great . Thanks all , happy new year :)

I would try watching some of Daniel Naroditsky's videos. He explains the moves as he goes and occasionally asks you to pause and find the best move in a position

Thank you sir ! I’ve hit an absolute wall

Chess Vibes is a good option if your looking for content based on fundamentals, ideas, plans.. etc.

The Chess Giant is also another good option, lots of offbeat openings you can learn on there and underrated.

Daniel Naroditsky is has far-and-away been the most helpful to my chess development. He breaks down a position so well that our smoothbrains can grasp everything

Thanks never heard of chess vibes or giant

Hanging pawns is great but he’s so theory based I struggle to recall it

YouTube channel NM Dan Heisman is well worth a visit. I have learned a lot from his videos.

For in-depth explanations of common openings and mainlines, my main recommendation would be Hanging Pawns and ChessDojo.
For uncommon or entirely new gambits, FM William Graif and Johnathan Schrantz are the two best by far.
For uncommon variations of common openings, SL Chess Development is a good resource, but he hasn't put anything out in nearly two years and his backlog is rather small, so he's only a good resource for the Philidor and the Delayed Alapin. ChessDojo does a similar thing but with regular uploads and a massive backlog.

There are chess streamers (Gotham, Botez, Hikaru etc...) whose focus is solely on entertainment. And there are people who focus on instruction. If your goal is to get better at chess, I would try their channels. Some are: Chess Dojo, Andras Toth, John Bartholomew, Ben Finegold, St. Louis Chess Club...

I stopped watching Finegold. I do not want to here about politics. When I am there for Chess. After the comment and ramblings saying unless you vote for Abrams you are a racist. I was done....

And I do not know who that is or care.

I was there for chess!

The other channels are good.

yup! i got banned on his twitch for saying "please play chess. i do not want to hear about politics"

Fair enough. My point was that there are many instructive people out there. My guess is that watching Hikaru playing bullet or Gotham guessing the elo of beginners is probably not the most helpful method to improve.

Nice

Also check out Andras Toth (ChessCoach Andras). Lesser known perhaps but I think he's good.
