This is a game of mine that I just finished in whichI've employed the halloween gambit.

Tell me what you guys think about this

Maradonna

Happy Halloween.

Could you tell me a bit about this Ganbit. Yup, I know i've the internet under my fingers but I though I'd ask a person :)

There is also some coverage in UNORTHODOX CHESS OPENINGS, by Eric Shiller.  He wrote in the book that Stefan Jacob has a web page devoted to the Halloween Gambit.   I think Shiller gives 9.d6

"In general, I find the opening to be well short of sound..."

              but

"...so long as White can maintain an initiative things are not too bad."

I bet it works well in 1 0

PawnFork

It is entertaining.  Perhaps I should give it a try some time.  The name is fun too.

I thought the halloween gambit was just a trap that goes 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Bc5 4.Nxe5 Nxe5 5.d4

The problem in this opening is that black can give the knight back and get a better position

for example in your game 6. ... Bb4 instead of Ne5

bobobbob

Yes, but people can't resist accepting.

benws

interesting. if black tries to hold on to the piece (like i did), he could get into big trouble. Cool (like i did)

anyway, i wouldn't advise playing this against anyone stronger than you are.

What do you have any idea what the Hallowean Gambit is its you should look at the legals mate

Matt1728

Yes.. But if they take the knight in legal's mate then all hope is lost...

ozzie_c_cobblepot

I like the almost artistic nature of the phrase "well short of sound".

M_M_

not bad

Sawin

Well I think everybody can say that this Gambit is probably the most incorrect one ever seen...if Black has time and doesn't loose it's conciousness, then White can only play for a draw. If somebody does have other opinion, come and play with me using this line.

Elubas

Is it possible for black to hold his piece without losing?

It's most likely possible but seems that it would be very hard to do..

FessMate

9...d6 and whites FAIL!!!

it seems like bad opening

d6 is what your supposed to play, it doesn't lose...

CRShelton

This is a great opening.  It may not be great in every situation, but it's easy to learn, and fun to play (because of the part where you chase the knights around)!

As mentioned, if black tries to hold on to the knight too hard, he will have some difficult calculation to do, so use this opening especially on opponents that value material very highly and in quick games.  It's a good surprise weapon.

Chess.com recently had a Halloween Gambit Tournament that Gonnosuke and Rigamagician just played in.  So there is increasing interest in the gambit.
