I know a bit about it, but not much...

It is not really a specific opening, but rather a certain type of set-up that commonly arises from the symmetrical english, sicilian kan, and probably some 1.d4 openings as well. Black sets up all of his pieces and pawns on the 6th-8th rank, and cedes space in the center. White usually gets a maroczy bind type position, with pawns on c4 and e4, which he uses to control d5,b5 and f5. Black spends time preparing to break with ...b5 or ...d5, and waits till the right moment to strike at the vulnerable white set-up. Patience is required to play this with black.

I never liked the hedgehog for either side. It isn't in my repertoire, but somehow I get into hedgehog type positions once in a while by accident, usually as white. With white I never know what to do, and with black I do not like having to sit and wait for white to do something. It is a good set-up though; just not for me.
