Help against ...e5 ....d6 opening

Quite interesting. White is far ahead in development in your line. What attacks do you generally aim for when the time comes? how else do you find yourself developing?

You are talking about Philidor's Defense (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6), not the Ponziani(1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3), right?
White's standard line is 3.d4.
The 3 standard lines recommended by MCO14 depend on blacks's response of Nf6, Nd7 and exd4 (f5 is replied by 4.exf5 e4 5.Ng5) (note: pvmike's line is also good):

Thanks all for the input for this is one that I come across quite a lot but usally go on my own steam, keep it comming!

No...I'm studying/playing the Ponziani where possible, but it's not playable vs the Philidor (especially with the continued fianchetto). So I'm looking for a good line as White to play against Philidor.
The lines you posted were quite helpful. Thanks a ton! And I second that...the link posted above is excellent.

Thank you. By the way, I forgot to mention that there is a user called mq1982 (I think that is the username) that used to make blogs on the ponziani. He stopped, but that should give some useful information. Also, here are 2 videos on the ponziani:

You can probably find more ways to respond against what black does in the comments section from players asking about it. The reason I know about these videos and know about the blogs is because I used to play the ponziani, but I am now trying to switch to the Ruy Lopez.

I'm really new to chess, can you explain why you left your queen hanging?

I think you are talking about a modern defense with an interesting move order or just a delayed knight move on the pirc. I would learn the Pseudo-Austrian attack. It is fun and gains space.
I have decided to study the Ponziani, and will be pursuing it where possible. I am being taken out of my game by the following by Black:
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d6
what, after 2. d6, would any of you recommend? The opening I've had the most trouble against continues 3...g6 4...Bg7 (fianchetto of King's Bishop)
Thanks for your thoughts.
